In an article titled ‘Evangelical leaders celebrate Trump's victory as a prophecy fulfilled’ dated November 6th of 2024, just one day after President Donald Trump won re-election, we get a sense what the sentiment was—and still seems to be in many evangelical circles—by reading the headlines subtitle. This is how it reads:
“Some evangelical Christians see Donald Trump’s win as ordained by God, offering “a divine mandate” in his second term.”
Unfortunately, as I just stated, the sentiment that President Trump was given a “divine” mandate by God to make America great again is taking many within the church by storm. There are NO divine mandates for any president specifically for the sole purpose of making a country great, prosperous and safe—though those are good things to have and count on in our daily lives. Look at the words of Daniel:
“And He changes the times and the seasons; He removes kings and raises up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise And knowledge to those who have understanding.” —Daniel 2:21 (NKJV)
Daniel understood Gods divine authority to appoint and remove kings or rulers. Daniel also understood that all wisdom comes from the Lord—period. This is why we are told in James 1:5 that says:
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (NKJV)
What we see expressed and/or conveyed here—and all throughout scripture—is that rulers, albeit presidents, kings, prime ministers, etc., are set up (and taken down) by God for the strict purpose of accomplishing His perfect prophetic plan for the ages. Period! Yes, the Lord in His good graces will give us presidents that have made life much more affluent and free, yet the flip side of that coin is equally just as true, and that is that our Lord also will give us “rulers” that can make life extremely burdensome and many times unbearable. Think North Korea, Iran, China, to name just a few.
What about evil rulers like Nicolae Ceaușescu of Romania, Stalin of Russia, Mao of China and Pol Pot of Cambodia. Wicked, evil, bloodthirsty and demonic men who were beyond drunk on power. Yet the Lord allowed it. And, through such heavy persecution we got men like Richard Wurmbrand who went on to found and establish Voice Of The Martyrs.
My take is that the only ones that have a divine mandate are blood bought believers in Jesus Christ. What is that mandate? Well, to preach repentance! To go out into the world and make disciples of all men! Our divine mandate is the Gospel. It’s the ‘evangelion’, the good news!
The Lord allowed Trump to become president yet again, not because of a mandate to make America great and prosperous again, though that might be a bi-product, but, He allowed it because it gives us the freedom to get out and share the Gospel to as many people as we can for such a time as this. It’s all part of God’s perfect plan of redemption and you and I have the privilege of being a part of it.
So, get out there and redeem the time He’s given us to boldly proclaim a living Jesus to a dying world!
