I’ve both heard and read that the Bible states the phrase “do not fear” about 365 times throughout. One for everyday of the year, right? However, I can’t verify that claim nor substantiate it. I’ve never really sat down to count…maybe I should. But I know one thing for certain, and that is that the Word of God has much to say about fear.
Before I continue, I would like to clarify the two kinds of fears that the Bible talks about. On the one hand we are commanded and encouraged (to say the least) to fear the Lord. In this case, the word simply means to be in extreme reverence, awe and amazement of God for who He is: Holy, Just, Almighty, King of kings and Lord of lords, the same yesterday today and forever, the Alpha and the Omega—beginning and the end, the great I AM.
Conversely, the other definition of fear that the Bible talks a great deal about is what most everybody knows it to be and that is:
1A very unpleasant or disturbing feeling caused by the presence or imminence of danger. Or, a feeling of disquiet or apprehension. Or, a reason for dread or apprehension.
That family is antithetical to the Spirit that each of us has dwelling within as we read of in 2 Timothy 1:7:
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.” (NKJV)
“For God has not given us a spirit of timidity (or cowardice), but of power and love and self-discipline.” (LSB)
The arena that the enemy works in is the mind, and if he can weasel his way in and have that fear, anxiety or worry work it’s way to the heart, he’s won a major victory. Why? Because fear is such a powerful emotion. Satan will use it as a way to distract us and even paralyze us from the work that the Lord has ready for us to do. We essentially become ineffective witnesses for the Lord. I believe the chorus to Queen’s hit song titled ‘Another One Bites The Dust’ sums up satan’s desire for each person, let alone each believer:
2“Another one bites the dust
Another one bites the dust
And another one gone, and another one gone
Another one bites the dust (yeah)
Hey, I'm gonna get you too
Another one bites the dust”
Needless to say that many of us experience bouts of worry, fear and anxiety. It’s a growing “trend”. I will be the first to admit that there are times in which my trust in the Lord wanes and is challenged. It’s a constant battle. In this episode, I share my heart with each of you in regards to trust, worry, fear and anxiety. I wanted to sit down and have an open and honest conversation about a subject that many are living with throughout the day.
Thank you to all that have committed to pray for S&D! If you feel led to, would you consider supporting the work to help keep the content free to all?
In an effort so as not to take away from what Roger Palmer has to say, I am going to stop here and encourage you to tune in to the podcast. He brings fresh biblical insight to the growing “trend” that has gripped the hearts, minds and lives of so many today.
Be encouraged because there is a way to deal with and overcome anxiety, fear and worry, and Roger does a fantastic job outlining what that is.
Spoiler alert: There’s no secret formula.
Let me close with this amazing reminder to each of us from the book of Joshua. God was commissioning Joshua and this is how the Lord concluded in verse 9:
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (NKJV)
So family, remember that no matter what, the Lord IS with you WHEREVER you go! He will never leave you nor forsake you.
😁Have A Nice Day!👍🏻
