Hard to believe that Don and I sat down to have this discussion back in 2021 about the purpose of Daniel's 70th week. Had a great time learing more about the subject and Don, as always, is such a great communicator. He breaks things down in a simple and easy way to understand.
God has a six-fold or multi-faceted purpose for Israel during this perdiod of time. We read in verses 20-23 that:
“…while I was speaking, praying, and confessing my sin and the sin of my people Israel, and presenting my supplication before the Lord my God for the holy mountain of my God, yes, while I was speaking in prayer, the man Gabriel, whom I had seen in the vision at the beginning, being caused to fly swiftly, reached me about the time of the evening offering. And he informed me, and talked with me, and said, “O Daniel, I have now come forth to give you skill to understand. At the beginning of your supplications the command went out, and I have come to tell you, for you are greatly beloved; therefore consider the matter, and understand the vision:” (NKJV)
Verse 24 goes on to say what this purpose is:
1) “to finish transgression,”
2) “to put an end to sin,”
3) “to atone for wickedness,”
4) “to bring in everlasting righteousness,”
5) “to seal up vision and prophecy,” and
6) “to anoint the most holy.”
Out of the 70 weeks decreed by God for the Jewish people, only 69 have elapsed. Israel’s prophetic time clock was put on pause after the crucifixion of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. It looks something like this:
49 years + 434 years = 483 years = 69 weeks of years fulfilled. However, the last week of 7 years is yet to be fulfilled, thus brining the total decreed prophetic number of 490 years of weeks for Israel.
Again, we have 483 years which is fulfilled. Now, we are in the parenthetical stage which we call the Church Age, or, the Age of Grace. But, there’s still that last 7 years which is called Danie’s (not the churches) 70th week. Others refer to it as the 7 year tribulation. Simple math: 483 + 7 = 490. Voila!
I know it can get a bit confusion, but Don did a great job at breaking down the 6-fold purpose of Daniel’s 70th week. Hope you enjoy!
